Dual Credit

Credits earned in college courses will count toward both high school graduation requirements and college degree requirements.

College Readiness

Before beginning college coursework, students must receive the high school principal's recommendation and meet all HISD and HCC requirements. High school students must also demonstrate college readiness based on acceptable TSI scores as determined by HCC and the state prior to enrolling in a dual credit course. Students can earn an exemption based on performance on ACT, SAT, or TAKS.  The State of Texas requires all students to pass a Texas Higher Education Assessment  prior to enrolling in college level coursework. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) testing instruments include the ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, and THEA).  HCC-Northeast administers ASSET and COMPASS tests.

Summer School

NHECHS students are encouraged to take college courses during their high school summer recess to accomplish the goal of obtaining as many college credits as possible.

Super Seniors

NHECHS students can earn more college credits for free by becoming a Super Senior. This enables students to continue taking courses on the college campus for one additional year.
